So You Are on Dialysis provides so many helpful truths for dialysis patients and their families. Being on dialysis is not an easy life and is not something that you just add to your life, it changes it.
Accepting the change or adapting to kidney failure has top be the first and most important steps. Those that are blind adapt by using braille, a white cane, and perhaps a seeing eye dog. Those that have trouble walking adapt with canes, walkers, or wheelchairs.
The diet for dialysis patients is a bit restrictive as is the fluid intake allocation. Although Home dialysis is available and recommended, most have to visit a clinic three times a week. Again, it is a massive disruption to everyday living and planning.
The purpose of this book is to help dialysis patients get through the physical and emotional obstacles that they encounter. There is a little humor in the book to help with the reading. It is not a technical book with big words, studies and tons of references. Just a simple book written by a simple person for dialysis patients that I have been caring for now for 32 years.
