Are You a Caterpillar or a Turtle?

Achieving success in almost any area of life will depend on your willingness and ability to venture outside of your comfort zone. Acomfort zone is a place or situation where one feels safe or at ease and without stress.

At first glance, the comfort zone may seem like a nice place to be. You feel safe and have no stress. What could be better? Think about it though.

A river never gets wider if it never overflows its banks.

Muscles never get bigger unless they are pushed beyond their max.

Money placed under a mattress will never increase in value.

The great success stories in life have one common theme. Successful people leave their comfort zone to accomplish something great. Outside the comfort zone is growth, development, achievement, and success.

The Caterpillar and the Turtle

The caterpillar and the turtle both have comfort zones. The caterpillar has its cocoon and the turtle has its shell. But wait, there are huge differences.

  1. The caterpillar transforms into a butterfly and never again enters that cocoon.
  2. The turtle is a turtle inside the shell but when it comes out; well, it’s still a turtle.
  3. The turtle carries that shell with it and is always able and ready to pop back in.
  4. The butterfly is constantly exploring other places, doing other things, and never even looks back at that cocoon.
  5. The turtle is slowed down all the time by that shell, and when anything unusual occurs, back inside it goes.
  6. The butterfly is free and unencumbered. Truly, the sky is the limit.

Endeavoring to be someone special and doing something great in life will require you to be like the caterpillar; that is, to experience a transformation. Transforming into another form of you that has left that comfort zone behind for the exceptional and the great.
